Have you ever had to make a heart breaking decision?

My employers (Goldman Sacks) have called me away to America for 6 weeks to deal with some important business. This has left me with a quandary. I live alone with my dog Rufus and all my family are dead so there is no one to look after him whilst I am away. Unfortunately I can't afford fees for kennels. Rufus is nine years old and 'slowing down' so it looks like I am going to have to make a heart braking decision and ask the vet to end his misery.
